The Lawyer Objects to Metaphoric Language

Show me the fireball of desire, the scarlet carpet of untamed horses,
the roar of stone lions. Present the evidence! he says,

That fish spawn in tree trunks, that starlings
fly through the sleep of schoolchildren!
