“Acela 2205” by Victor Basta (poetry ’24)
Poetry alum Victor Basta had a poem recently featured in Zócalo Public Square. Read an excerpt from “Acela 2205.”
Acela 2205
The little girl opposite me is screaming
her mother stepped on her thumb, then whimpers
‘when will this train end?’
Outside my window, gray and green strips
blur by, underscoring wildness
that sways open to rows of strewn vinyl chairs
awaiting an audience.
