Invitation to Wally Camp Readings

Dear Alumni, Staff, and Friends of the Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers,

This year Wally Camp will brim with 51 intrepid writers gathering to write, teach, read, and commune on the lovely campus of Mt. Holyoke College, Emily Dickinson’s old stomping ground. If you’re not able to attend, you can still take part in three exciting ways: viewing the evening readings on Zoom, viewing a tribute to Ellen on July 16, and contributing auction items.

If you have questions, please contact David Ruekberg at [email protected] or use the Contact form on our website.

Evening readings

If you are near Mt. Holyoke College, please stop by and enjoy the evening readings. If you can’t attend in person, we will be broadcasting the evening readings via Zoom. The readings will begin at 7:30 PM EDT from Sunday, July 12 through Saturday, July 18. You can find a schedule of readers and location on our website at tinyurl.com/wallycamp.

If joining remotely, you can arrive any time after 7 PM. You will be muted throughout the reading, but you can share your praise in the chat. After the readers have finished, you can unmute and visit with other Zoom attendees. Please email David Ruekberg at [email protected] for the Zoom link.

Tribute to Ellen Bryant Voigt

Given that 2026 is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the MFA Program for Writers at Goddard College, and that Ellen passed away last year, we thought it fitting to honor her with a tribute during the alumni conference that she held so dear. Kathleen Collisson and Debra Allbery have dreamed up a beautiful event at 2:45 PM EDT on Thursday, July 16. (Please arrive by 2:30.)

During the summer 1995 residency Kathleen co-produced a recording of Ellen’s newly released collection of linked sonnets, Kyrie, with the poems read in different voices. Thanks to tireless efforts of Deb Allbery and Reed Turchi, the recording was transferred to CD, which we will play. Readers include Lux, McIlvoy, Baxter, Boruch, Wilner, Turchi, and more. Cello interludes by Kathleen Collisson.

In addition, Debra Allbery has composed a slideshow to accompany the poems which you will be able to view while you listen. Following the reading, attendees on site will sit together in Quaker meeting style with the opportunity to speak as so moved. Zoom attendees will be muted throughout so as to help preserve the atmosphere in the room, but may share written responses in the Zoom chat. Please email  [email protected] for the Zoom link!

Sincerely yours,

David Ruekberg
