To celebrate 45 years of the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College and 30 years of Friends of Writers (FOW) scholarship support, we are hosting a series of (virtual) literary events across the country. Each is hosted and presented by regional writers but available nationally. Our goal is to raise funds with these regional events to support our ongoing mission to cultivate new and vital literary voices, and to celebrate the community and mutual support of writers. Specifically, your participation will contribute to scholarships and to Grants for Change to benefit BIPOC writers.

Find the schedule, donate to the cause, and order your commemorative T-shirts at this link: http://friendsofwriters.org/friends-of-writers-45th-anniversary-celebration-regional-literary-events/

Sunday, July 8         MAURICE MANNING: This Land is Your Land
11:00 AM                 Tangled Up in Blue: Tramps, Troubadors, and the Language of Poetry

For this lecture I plan to look briefly at the 11th century troubadours, who composed poems to be accompanied
by music. These early poems were written for the ear, rather than the page. My thesis is such a tradition has
continued in poetry ever since and may be worth closer study. No advance reading is necessary. Handouts will
be provided. Singing will probably be a feature of this lecture.

Request for Volunteers at AWP 2018

The MFA Program for Writers will once again have a table at the AWP Conference.  The Bookfair is open Thursday, March 7 to Saturday, March 10, from 9:00 to 5:00. We seek volunteers in one- or two-hour shifts, to answer questions from prospective students and to talk about their experience in the MFA program.

If you’re coming to AWP and are able to donate some time toward staffing our table, please contact alumna Alison Powell (Fiction, 2010; [email protected], or via FaceBook), a.s.a.p. with specifics about your availability. Allison will coordinate the schedule and will be back in touch with you to confirm.

Our thanks in advance for your assistance. As one of our recent print ads stated, “Our graduates are our best advertisement.” Your many successes—and your abiding enthusiasm for our program—provide impressive evidence of what the Warren Wilson MFA yields and makes possible for our lives as writers.

Digital recordings of lectures from the January 2018 residency are now available for download at the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson website.  Also added to the store are some gems from the olden days: Lectures from 1992-93
